It might not be squirrels. Depending upon where you live and the critters that hang out, it could be possums, raccoons, or armadillos. Unfortunately, I don't have a solution for you, unless you want to cover them up at night. There are materials out there to do that, but they can be expensive. I used some cheap white sheer curtains I picked up at the dollar store or Big Lots. Good luck.

Let me know when you find out. We have two semi-hunting dogs and those little monsters move like lightening. I have yet to find a solution.

I had that same problem - and I knew it was squirrels digging in my flower pots. Someone suggested used coffee grounds. I sprinkled some around and it works!

Eileen, that can be so discouraging when we work so hard to get our flower pots like we want. I put 2 to 3 layers of river rocks in my potted plants and they left them alone after that. Hope this helps!

I use clam shells turned pretty side up, they help control moisture and critters, as an alternative to the shells, I have used broken ceramic tile.

    Hi Eileen,

We had the same problem, the solution was to place immovable objects in their way that look nice. Rocks work well, have used seashells, clam shells, broken ceramics. Another idea is to put down chicken wire and have the plants grow through it.
