Have Killed 5 copperheads this summer at our home in North Carolina

we had a giant copperhead last year and it had us jumping, so I know what you are going thru. i THINK YOU ARE CORRECT WITH THESE TIES. you want to get them out of there if possible. are these part of a hillside holding back the dirt? these sound like a deadman, and if so you have a real problem. you can try spraying copper sulfide or other copper based sprays. I hear that they dont like this and might move away. best of luck.

I'm just throwing out a guess here because I have no idea if it will work or not but what about that spray expanding foam insulation in a can. You can also get non-expanding foam insulation, if that would be better.

I don't know much about snakes. I would think this is something that should have been disclosed by the realtor. I feel bad for you. Make sure all gaps filled in to your house, so they cannot get in.

There was a story from my grandma .snakes will not cross lime. .she use to spread it along her fences .you could get a big bag and try it .my cat brings the garter snakes in on my screen porch .had to start locking the cat door .he don't kill them wants to play with them. .they are usually baby ones . Use mothballs they hate them cinnamon oil and repels then it’s also known as Eugenol black pepper clove oil put all these in a spray bottle and spray in holes then put mothballs in they will be repelled

Do yourself a favor and call in the pros. If you are on Nextdoor.com, hop on and find out who in your area is the best. They will only attack if they feel threatened, but still dangerous. The pros will examine your property and remove any on site. Hopefully you do not have a den. In the meantime, see if this helps.

I have only killed a couple on my girlfriends property in the last 15 years. In my area, I catch rattlesnakes and the evil green mojave - which are fatal if bit. In my case, they were here first, so living on the edge of civilization, you take the good with the bad. Luckily absolutely nothing scares me.

Naomie suggested that you try Nextdoor.com. I'd like to tell you my story with them. I was looking for a contractor or handyman, but this would also work for looking for someone to help you remove the snakes.

A really good place to find a local, good, contractor (or any other type of professional) is to join NextDoor.com It's a website where they match you with others in your neighborhood so that you can exchange ideas. When I joined, I waited a week or so to see what kind of things people were posting. I was excited as people started asking for a good plumber or carpenter. I had been looking for a handyman for over a year and they either said they'd come and didn't or they came and never called back with a price. I tried HomeAdvisor.com but the person who took my call didn't want to "drive that far". We live in what's called the Southtowns, he lived about a 20 min drive away but for some reason people think the "Southtowns" if as far away as the moon. LOL Anyway, I posted and asked at NextDoor.com for a handyman in the morning. I had someone suggest one he had used within an hour. I called the handyman, he called me back that night, came the next day to price the job and, due to a cancellation, came back the next day to actually do the job! Done from first contact to finished in 2 1/2 days!

So if you decide to look for a professional to help you with the snakes, this is a great place to ask your neighbors - even ones you don't know yet. Be safe and best of luck.
