Decorating a Window Seat

Do you have a window seat that you don't know how to decorate? Window seats can sometimes be hard to decorate. For the longest time, I didn't know how to improve the look of the window seat in my home's living room. The space looked rather drab and sad for quite some time.
Doesn't the cushion in the above photo look lonely? The cushion I made didn't do much for the space. The pattern was drab and depressing, in my opinion!

I wanted to make a custom window seat cushion for the space, but that requires some measuring and maybe more sewing ability than I have. So I scrapped that idea. (At least for now.)

I discovered that an easy way to decorate a window seat is by adding colorful pillows in various patterns, and a comfy throw.
I love to make DIY pillows. For the window seat, I chose some of my homemade pillows. I chose pillows in vibrant blues, yellows and green that look good together. I simply experimented putting different pillows in the space until I got a look that I liked. (I had a lot of pillows to choose from!)

I think the pillow combination I chose works because blue and yellow is a classic color combination, and dark green tends to look good with blue and yellow, too. I think it helps that each pillow has the same pattern as another pillow on the window seat -- repeating the same pattern adds some consistency.
I think the yellow in the curtains and the throw also ties the look together
It's helpful to have one color in a central role to make a color scheme work.

Meanwhile, the green in the paper lantern hanging above the window seat picks up the green in one of the pillows.

I am glad that I discovered that I could simply place some pillows in the window seat to pretty up the space. Also, by using pillows instead of a custom-made window cushion, I can easily change the look of the window seat at a moment's notice or on a whim.

The below photo shows my living room's window seat without the pillows and throw.
I think the pillows and throw make the space so much better!
I love changing up the decor in my home, so if you have any different ideas on how to decorate the window seat space, I'd love to hear from you! Thanks for checking out my window seat -- it's one of my favorite spots in my home!
