My ceiling has 3x1 running crisscross to make 18"x12" boxes looks nice but think it will take forever to paint. Afraid of drips . also have some cracks where ceiling and wall meets.

Hire someone! It's so much easier and less messy!

Yep, hire it done. Make sure they use a sealer so the dingy look won't bled back.

We got some of that "primer included" in ceiling pant...It took twice as much and we had to go over it with Behr ceiling paint!

It all depends on you, your skill and if this is something you feel you can do. If not, hire someone, or get help.

    Steps:

    1. Patch the cracks and sand

    2. optional - mask

    3. cut in 1x3's and paint 1x3s

    4. paint ceiling

    5. paint wall

Patch the cracks following the instruction on the material you chose.

I don't mask because I have a steady hand and find that paint bleeds behind the tape anyway, so why bother.

But start with a brush to cut in all the boxes. I like a diagonal brush with a high bristle count and clean it well and use it for and reuse it. 1 1/2 to 2" brush is fine for this. Use a paint pail not the paint can the paint came in. You can also cut a gallon jug into a paint pail. After dipping your brush tap each side twice on the side of the paint pail to remove excess to prevent drips.

You can get small rollers and regular rollers. Use the small rollers on the battens (1x3s) and regular rollers on the boxes.

You should always apply lighter and do more coats than try to slop on one heavy coat.
