Fireplace help! Just remodeled kitchen and fireplace doesn’t work!

I would suggest that you stain the wood part of the fireplace surround to match your new cabinets first. Then replicate the herringbone pattern with the subway tile that you used above the cook-top in the back surface of the arched alcove.

the arch is beautiful. I’d stain the wood to match. use brick to cover existing tile surrounding the opening. Then I’d paint the inside of the arch back wall a different accent color of paint and add pretty decor or cover the back with those plastic ceiling tiles that you can paint any color but they resemble the old tin tiles. I added them to doors. I would paint the entire frame of the mantle and the mantle itself a glossy Espresso dark coffee color (like black coffee) to match the kitchen cabinets and your hanging black kitchen lights (I think the cabinets are an Espresso?) I think the existing tile is fine leave it alone since it matches your granite counter. Inside the arched niche place a nice free standing large mirror with a nice black frame or just mirror framed to accent it, maybe an arched mirror there are many online just search it. Next to the mirror inside the arch to the left since you have an outlet you could place a nice small yet tall tiffany style lamp or a lamp with a black metal looking style base to match the kitchen lights that would bring soft light glow to that area reflected by the mirror. Then place some nice picture frames of loved ones in front of mirror or other decor you like. During the holidays either fall or Christmas you can accent it in front of mirror with those small golden or white Christmas lights and any other decor for the mantle. There are many nice things you could do.

I have a fireplace too and never use it because of the mess it makes and in Florida we don't really need them but it came with the house. I placed a runner on my mantle some decor I switch for holidays and inside the fireplace those fake looking candles that work by battery and remote control to give it that glow.
