How to remove a faux brick floor?

The bricks are not flat, so laying new flooring is not an option. The mortar is about a 1/4" thick. Anything other than a jackhammer to remove it?

I think the jackhammer is the only option.

  • There are tile scrapers, both manual and electric ones. You can rent the electric ones from a big box hardware store.

You will need to get under the brick and pry them up with a crowbar maybe.

That sounds pretty labor intensive, since the bricks are not loose to pry up. I think it's going to take the big stuff to get them up.

Thanks for all the suggestions. However we do it, will be slow, loud, and super dusty!

Jack hammer would be too much. You'd probably break through the underlayment. Two options. Big sledge hammer and an Ice scraper. Other option wo9uld be to use a cement based floor leveling compound over the brick to level the floor.

You don't know until you try and then maybe some of them will come up whole and be reusable. Just a thought. Good luck with your project.
