How best to get all labels off glass jars permanently?

I need to have them completely clean and clear, without any residue left at all - as these are for objects in a professional office setting for my sister. They are mostly assorted food jars, but not all.

Soak them in hot soapy water with Dawn dish detergent, covering labels.

  • I just soak them in warm water with dish soap. If it needs a little help with label glue residue, WD 40, goo gone, rubbing alcohol all work. Then wash in how hot hot water and dish soap, place on cotton kitchen towels or paper towels upside down to air dry, then right side up.

Goo Gone works to get what you can't peel off. But we found doing a large amount of wine bottles it was easiest to use a heat torch and the labels came right off.

Plain old cooking oil. Remove as much of the label as possible by putting warm water in the jar. Dump water out. Rub cooking oil on outside of jar, let set about 10 minutes then use a dull knife to remove any residue. Wash in soapy water like dawn. Good to go. I use this technique all the time.

I soak them in hot water in a rubber basin in the sink, then I use a round plastic scrubby. If there is a big blob of rubber cement, I just peel it off or use a knife to scrape it off. I have also used spray cooking oil to get adhesive residue off using my plastic scrubby.

After soaking labels off I like to run them through the dishwasher to be sure I have them squeaky clean.
