Are you able to extend the kitchen into another room? Light colors will help. Paint the cabinets a cream color. Get plenty of light in there. Undercabinet lighting is really nice. Make sure ceiling light is nice and bright. If you have the room, put glass cabinets on the top of the wall cabinets and put lights in them. If you post some pictures, we might be able to help you more. Post a new question with the pictures and your question.

Hi Robert, Utilize the space above the cabinets, if not already in use. It is rather difficult to imagine your kitchen without pictures. Use of reflective surfaces might be one way or by using a White or very light walls and cabinets would be another way, and just use strong colours as accessories.

If you have room. Build shelves under cabinets. If not then maybe on the walls. I didn't have the room. So I bought a bakers rack. It works great. You can use it for Dishes and bowls. Or pots and pans.

Would lazy susan turntables help make cabinets usable? Also, some undercounter lighting makes a kitchen seem larger. Amazon sells some lighting that's battery operated, rechargeable and mounted with a magnetic strip. Two lights for around $20.
