Don't know what area of the country you live in, but in Central Texas both dianthus and pansies love cold weather and bloom away. I'm sure there are other plants here that also bloom, but these are the ones I have. I suggest you consult with your local plant nursery.
Hi Sue! The correct answer depends on the climate where you reside. I suggest you contact your County Extension Agent and they could advise you about appropriate plantings for your specific area. Good Luck! Yes, color is good....always!
I keep Gerbera Daisies in my house!!!
Don't know where you live but try heather. It does bloom in winter in a fairly mild climate.
I don't know of any plants that bloom in the winter months, but there are some shrubs that can add color like holly with its red berries, golden cypress, my camelias have been blooming in Dec. last couple years due to global warming, my neighbor has a couple real pretty golden cypress shrubs.

Japanese camellias are winter bloomers. They are an evergreen plant that gives some winter beauty. Mine are about 15 years old. They are slow growers but worth the wait.

Living in Michigan, I doubt very much that there is anything that blooms after the weather gets cold. Any perennial will be dormant and the annuals will be frozen. The only way to have color in the winter would be to use artificial, or go with some shrubs that may have attractive colorful branches. I know that there is no flower that will be growing in my neck of the woods in SE Minnesota. Have to wait until spring finally shows up. Sorry Sue!
