What do I need to start a welding project? I would like to take old kitchen tools and weld them together to make a garden angel, but the putting them together part always scares me.

Hi Amy, fortunately this is not so much using a welding torch as it is using a glue that will adhere metal to each other. Below is what I use. Found it at the auto parts store, but I think the big box stores also sell it. Happy crafting!

  • Hi amy, a welder is a big expensive machine that isn't something you would typically purchase for just a single crafting project. Most welders used in the home are mig welders (metal inert gas welder) because you don't purchase any gasses to use and the flux (bonding agent) is in the wire that is used with the machine. If you plan on purchasing a welder I would love to give you more information on what types of welders are available and the pros and cons of each if this is something you'd like to pursue, otherwise rivets might be a good alternative to the project you mentioned. They are permanent, no glue to come undone. Drill tiny holes and hammer them in, easy peasy! Good luck!

  • P.s. brazing might be another option for you as it's set up is less costly but you would still have to purchase gasses. Let me know if this is something you'd like to try and I can give you more specific info!
