Julieann, you can follow this process for painting just about anything that doesn't already have paint on it. 1) sand any rough or uneven spots 2) primer the surface (i use Kilz) 3) paint first coat (best cabinet and furniture grade paint is a latex enamel gloss paint) 4) it will need a second coat
I recommend using a very fine nap roller or HVLP.
