Tearing down is not an option. It’s textured like the walls. I have decor on top now (NOT fake plants like circa 1990). Need help making it not look dated on a budg... See more
Hi Leslie, have you updated your counter tops and/or backsplash or do they need it. To add some color you could add fresh draperies and hang them from nearly ceiling level. That might make a change. Personally I like the all white, at least on the inside so you can get crazy with accessories and artwork.
Hi Leslie, I grew up in a 90s home. The walls were white and the only trim was along the floor and around the windows and ALL of the hardware throughout the whole home (including the lights) was that tacky cheap gold. We painted the walls a light gray and all of the trim white. We didn't replace the carpet because it wasn't in the budget but definitely would have went with a hardwood or wood-look vinyl if we had been able to!
We replaced all of the light fixtures with bronze and either spray painted or replaced all of the hardware with bronze as well (including all of the door knobs and cabinet knobs) it really made a big difference!
We also painted out all of the closet doors and bedrooms doors in white because they were cheap wood before that.
According to my 1st link, some 90's trends are coming back, so don't go reno crazy just yet...

Hi Leslie. I'm Cindy. The big fad right now is "open concept". Are you able to remove any walls in the living space of your house? Entertaining is big now too. People want to see the living room from the kitchen, especially when they have company over. I like the idea of all white, but would never do for my family. Dogs and kids. If you want to bring some color into your house, you could add it with rugs, pillows, and art work. Best of luck to you.
Thanks for the good ideas! The kitchen has maple kinda cheaper cabinets. There is not a backslash thank fortune! The countertops have to be replaced they ate mauve( dear lord!) The off white sculptured carpet has to go so that will be a big expense. Is gray kinda going out? And how about subway tile? Yes the ealls are all while and the fixtures are fake brass🤪 but I saw the method of bronzing them. Thks guys, keep those ideas coming!
