I was excited when I found a small, folding piano stool at my local Goodwill store. I’ve just finished giving a makeover to a large vanity and I needed a small stool to go with it. I looked on line, but I wasn’t thrilled with the prices. I took a chance that I might find something suitable at Goodwill and when I spotted the piano stool for $7.99, I was glad I made the trip to the store. I had an idea of how I wanted the stool to look and I knew with a quick makeover, this stool would be perfect.

The stool was in pretty good shape and I’m sure someone could have used it as is. I wanted a different look. I’ve painted a vanity using a peach color chalky paint and we have lots of cream accents in our bedroom. I’m using some copper accessories on the vanity, so I decided to spray paint the legs of the stool copper.

The seat cover and the padding were in great shape, so I didn’t need to remove either of those. I chose a fuzzy fabric at JoAnn Fabric and Craft. I bought one yard which gave me enough to have leftover fabric in case I need to replace it at some point. I measured and cut the fabric to fit the seat with enough overlap to secure it using staples.

I disassembled the bench prior to adding the fabric. Once the legs were off, I gave them a coat of Krylon Metallic Spray Paint in Copper, followed by a coat of Minwax Protective Finish.

Once I had measured and cut the fabric, I wrapped it around the seat cushion as if wrapping a present. The fabric was then stapled to the back side of the seat cushion. The last step was to screw the legs back in place.

This was a very simple makeover and it didn’t take long at all to do it. The only time consuming part of this project was allowing the paint to dry and that less than an hour.

Don't pass up those thrift store items that only need a quick makeover to be a perfect fit for your decor.
