Want to pait an end table, best recommended paint to do this?

The table is now being used in the Master bedroom in the setting area. The table is all natural cherry with a glass insert. The other pieces are the red cherry, night stands and headboard are grey. The chairs are also a grey print low wing back.
1 Is the liquid sand sufficient to remove the top coat?
2 Best paint to use on table
3 Would like to enhance with a touch of black, what should I use? A glaze or paint dry brushed?
