Is there a way for me to catch the lint that comes out of dryer vent?

Our dryer vents out to our atrium. It comes out of the wall and has a little hood contraption probably to direct flow downward. Problem is that the lint settles onto plants and slowly smothers them—not to mention having to sweep the floor often. Is there anything I can do to collect the lint without it blowing all over my atrium and WITHOUT it backing up into the vent creating a fire hazard? Something I can empty every few loads? Went to hardware store, but there doesn’t seem to be a product. It would be easier if the vent was round so I could McGyver something and affix it somehow but it isn’t.

Depending on where the dryer vent comes out of the wall and the size of it, you can probably make a small box frame and cover it with small mesh screen wire like you have on a window screen. You can buy the screening by the roll at the hardware store, or perhaps cover it in a fine mesh gauze from the craft store. Even if it has to set on a ledge, you could still remove the box after every few loads to clean it out.
