Grout that gets black like that is tough. It's usually a mix of dirt and soap scum. I use scrubbing bubbles, let it sit, then scrub with a brush. Rinse and repeat while it is damp. Then use your bleach spray to lighten it after getting off the soap scum. Let that sit for 20 minutes or so. Rinse.

Now for keeping it off: you can seal the grout with grout sealer once it is clean and dry. I reseal grout every couple of months in a constant wet environment.

If this process does not fully clean it, you can get grout stain to whiten the grout. Then seal.

  • I too have a disability that causes me to figure out different ways to keep my independence or do things. I dilute a few drops of blue dawn in a spray bottle of vinegar. I sprinkle baking soda in the section I need to clean and spray the vinegar in it. This pulls the dirt up out of the grout for me. I then use a battery operated tooth brush on that section which prevents me from having to actually scrub with elbow grease. Wipe with a wet rag and dip tour tooth brush in water when needed. We live on the coast so humidity adds to the moisture trapped in our homes. A few years ago I discovered Damp Rid buckets & they are phenomenal. They now also have hanging bag options for closets. If you also have moisture trapped in your linen closest these should help that situation as well.

Once you have the grout clean and dry, it must be properly sealed . Then you can count on products like the one you're using to make life easier.
