Easiest & cheapest way to cover old bathroom floor tiles for dummies?

Faith Provencher | Design FixationCindy Hagemann

Hey there! I've decided to try and renovate my bathroom this month for less than $200. Ideally less than $100, but that may be unrealistic! I have zero experience in renovating anything ever, but I figure there's no time like the present to learn! From doing some searches online, it seems like vinyl seems like the simplest solution without much of a headache and without burning a hole through my meager student's wallet. We have old basic tiles that have been there since the house was built, about 35 yrs ago. Any thoughts? Any advice? Can I just put vinyl directly on top of the tile? I know nothing. Please help!

You can paint them! Use a primer first, then chalk paint, then stencil if you want and seal with a water based polycrylic (2-3 coats).

  • Yes, I agree with Cindy... paint is such a cheap way to massively improve any space. You could paint every other one a different color to create a checkerboard effect, or buy a tile stencil online. Good luck!
