Small spaces require being creative with storage. I like use any blank space available that includes sides of cabinets, walls, top of refrigerator, etc. Open shelves, baskets that fasten to the wall or side of cabinets, etc.
To make any space seem bigger, hang a mirror across from a window. It reflects the light and makes a room seem larger.
I was always told that barley twist and quarter sawed oak dates at its earliest in the mid 19th century, but I have a couple pieces I believe to be far older. Here's for point of reference.
