How can I remove an ugly backsplash?

I put in a backsplash with liquid nails,. Now I have been told I can't remove it without ruining the wall behind it. Can anyone give me more information on removing this thing or can I possibly put a different backsplash over the top of it?

You are stuck removing the drywall. People are afraid of dry walling, but it's not such a daunting task, especially for a backsplash. Remove all the drywall, measure and cut new, screw it on (electric screwdriver makes quick work), tape the joints, spackle in the screws and tape, sand till smooth and you're ready to install your new backsplash. If you're installing tile over it, you don't even have to sand much.

Since you know what you did, do you remember whether you installed your backsplash onto cement backer board or drywall? and how generous you were with the liquid nails?

If drywall, you'll probably damage it when you remove the backsplash you attached with liquid nails but it might be able to be patched and then your new backsplash applied. If you applied liquid nails to cement backer your chances of removal without too much damage improves. Either way, you won't know until you get into the removal. Only suggestion I have is to maybe try to heat the backsplash in the hopes of the liquid nails softening a bit (don't know if it will) and then you have less chance of damaging whatever it is adhered to. Good luck!
