Has anyone ever stained exterior brick?

Our brick is one color on the outside, an orange color, but our fireplace has multi colored brick cream, orange, and dk grey (looks better than it sounds) and I'd love it to be on the outside too. Any suggestions?

Yes; I have... I did not make different colors, my brick was different colors and I wanted to mute it down, so I did make a stain wash over it all... it has held up for more than 20 years. I also stained a rock fireplace using different stain colors, the rocks were different colors to start with, again it has held up at least 12 years and looks great

If I am understanding your question correctly, staining only the ones you are interested in darkening, yes you can.... it's a subtle difference but certainly a difference, and if you like some but not others, I don't see any reason you can't. I also on my rocks, and would assume bricks work the same way.... if I wanted a deeper color, I either put more than one coat or even mixed colors..... I didn't wait for the stain to dry, if I wanted it deeper, I just went over it right there... if you have ever painted with water colors, this is the same concept.
