    Hi Donna,

If your cabinets have nicks & blemishes, the time to fix them is before you paint. Fill the nicks with wood putty, let it dry, then use sandpaper to make it smooth. Other blemishes can be hidden by cleaning them thoroughly and using a primer. A primer will usually prevent anything that has soaked into the wood from coming through the paint. I know people don't use sandpaper or primer with chalk paint. What you are doing is repair work so that you get better results. Wishing you the best.

I think it would. There’s a specific paint that Paige Hemmis on Home and Family show said works really well for painting cabinets, but unfortunately I don’t remember the name of it. I would take a piece of wood and use the chalk paint you’re thinking of and seeing if that’ll do the work. You might also be able to find Rethink Junk paint online and that works wonderful on furniture, cabinets, etc.

I would suggest a very good enamel. While white paint will always turn yellowish over time.

Linda is correct. Repair any nicks and dings before you chalk paint. No paint will hide nicks and dings. Have fun changing your kitchen!!

Take one of the cabinet doors to the paint department of your home improvement store and ask for their advice on materials and tools to achieve a professional result.
