A couple of weeks ago I rescued a burnt shopping trolley that had been discarded in bushland close to where I live and turned it into a planter. The intention to plant Bergamot (Bee Balm) seeds in it come Spring. I recently rescued the second abandoned trolley which was also burnt and gave that a slightly different treatment.

This one I lined with artificial turf. Two 1m square sheets from the plant nursery cut to size to line the trolley/cart. The turf has holes in it. I used plastic zip ties to fix this to the cage of the cart. Then I lined that with an old plastic tarpaulin I had in the garage - cut to size and also cut some drainage holes in the bottom. Filled with mushroom compost and cow manure. I added some fake roses on long strings from cheap dollar store to the trolley handle and front to disguise the areas where the trolley was badly burned in the recent back burn (done by local fire services to help reduce fuel load as we live in a bush fire prone area). Then completed the look by adding my timber and rope Rhubarb sign to the handle. Planted up a rhubarb crown that I had removed from my raised asparagus bed to give the asparagus more space to grow and this will grow back again in Spring, producing lots of lovely rhubarb to be made into pies and crumbles. I felt this was a good use of a discarded and unwanted shopping trolley rather than leaving it sitting in the bush and looking like an eyesore.
