We have aluminum siding on our house, and it is very, very dirty. We are not sure if some of the visible "dirt" is mold and/ or mildew. What can we use that will clean this from our siding? At this point we have not tried anything.

Use dawn dish soap scrub brush and hose . We do ours every year and it takes off the green mold also.

Laundry detergent, bleach (vinegar and borax will also work) if there is mildew on the siding, water, a brush and gloves. You can use on of those extension brushes and a ladder to clean the hard to reach spots. Pick a sunny day since it takes a while and if you have a pressure washer it will make it easier too. Just make sure it's on a low setting so you don't damage the siding.

Use a product called WET AND FORGET. Mitre 10 carries this product. The best mold inhibitor ever. You can check it out on you tube too. Also great for shade sails, tile roofs, concrete srep stones etc. Not harsh on enviroment or pets etc.

If you are using a pressure washer Home Depot sells a siding cleaner. In the past I have used a product from I beleive Clorox. You attach it to your hose and spray it on. It says you don't have to rinse but our sideing was very dirty so while one of us sprayed it on, the other used a sponge mop to scrub it. It came out really clean and stayed clean for a few years. It was a while ago so I adon't remember the name of it but I am pretty sure Clorox makes it.
