Wood, nails, shingles! If you have scrap wood of any kind it will be a cheap build.

ground contact 2 x 4's , 2 x 2's, 2 sheets 4 x 8 sheet marine grade plywood; shingles or metal panels for roof depending on your 'style' ... some dogs enjoy laying on top of their houses, if that's the case, a flat roof, but sloped to shed rain; biggest mistakes in building a house yourself is 1. making it too large, and 2. not 'offsetting' the entrance; Depending on your location and how cold your winters are, the house needs to be small enough for the dog to heat it with his own bodyheat, and the entrance off set so that wind doesn't blow directly into the resting area of the shelter.

Most of these are more decorative than actually functional -- #31 is not pretty, but is well built and offers both an offset entrance and a resting roof ... https://morningchores.com/dog-house-plans/ Many dog may not even USE a house --- they can be stiflingly hot in the summer, loud with rain pounding on the roof; and cold/wet in the winter; IF you choose to use the shelter in the winter months and your area is very cold please don't use blankets or other fabric that will absorb moisture; A good quality feed grade hay is best, and stuff the house as full as you can with it to act as insulation and it won't get wet/soggy if you dog gets wet from rain/snow.

And is you build it well, be sure you either have help to move it to a selected location, or build it 'on site' as it will be quite heavy.
