Bev, so many possibilities! But, basically, Sand, Stain/paint, Seal. I love the way people are painting each chair a different color, or even a different stain. Go for it, and document for Hometalk! ☺️

Hi Bev if they're wood you could paint them or sand them down and refinish them in any color stain you like. If they need new uhpolstery chair seats generally come off really easy and you then remove the old fabric, cut your new to the same size as the old and simply staple it on.

Hi Bev! Whether you paint or stain, start with a good cleaning. I scrub a piece down before I move on to any other steps. Let it dry completely. Remove the seat if it is upholstered before starting. Sand it down. If you are going to paint, I recommend sealing wood first, so you don't get bleed through. I use Kilz latex. Now, it's time to paint! I use chalk paint as much as anyone else on this forum, but, I believe the prep gives you the best start. A clear sealer will protect your new finish. Stain is approached the same way, except you can skip the sealer as the first finish. There are so many products and colors out there for both. Have fun, but, take the time to make it last.
