The best time of year to divide hostas is late summer (August or early September). But don't worry if you forget—you can divide hostas any time from spring to fall.

When they first emerge in spring but they are pretty tough and can be moved most any time.
Hi Pat. I find it the easiest in the spring right when they start coming up. Hostas are very hardy and can really be transplanted at anytime as long as it is not too hot. Good Luck!
Early spring when they first start coming up. I have many, many hostas and that is when I find they do best when moved.
