According to what material is made of, try ripping off the face of the paper and spray HOT water on it. Wait a while and use scraper to see if it will come off. If it does not come off this way, try a Paper Tiger (puts little holes in paper face) and a wallpaper removal product, and scrape after allotted time. You May NOT need to put new sheetrock up! Just make sure you clean/rinse VERY WELL and then PRIME before painting!

Agreed you should not need to put up new sheetrock if you're just dealing with wallpaper. Once you remove it you may have to do a little fixing with sheetrock compound but after that just prime and paint.

If you are planning on replacing the sheetrock, why bother to take the paper down? Just cut the walls out and replace.

If you want to just remove the wallpaper, here is how:

Once the paper is removed, wash, repair, prime and paint.

Strip the wallpaper off first then if you have an empty spray bottle, put warm/hot water and Fabric Softener in it (1/2 & 1/2). Spray the backing paper and wait a few minutes then use a Scraper. Works just as good as what they sell for $$!! I’ve always used this!! It’ll be a little messy so keep a rag handy😃

Hi Judy! Just wondering if you tried my idea and how you made out using the Fabric Softener? Hope it helped 🤭
