Am thinking extending it 4 ft. Would 4 more ft in cement be best or cover existing cement with wood along with extra 4 ft

    Hello Carolyn,

    My choice would go for the longer lasting job (Concrete) , but the choice is yours. Of course you could always cover the whole in Decking another time if you were not happy with the results........

    How about using pavers for the added 4'. Concrete is expensive if done right. You can cover the existing concrete with wood and go 4' out. Make sure you use pressure treated wood.

    It is difficult to connect two cement porches that big. I think the best thing to do would be to cover the existing deck with either pressure treated wood, composite or aluminum. Keep in mind when shopping, pressure treated wood requires yearly maintenance and composite gets very hot to walk on in bare feet. Like William said, if you use wood, make sure it's pressure treated. Never put regular wood on top of cement. You will need to pour footings to support the new part of your porch no matter what material you decide to use.
