Coleus help? What do I do?

Plant it in potting soil and it will gtow. Make sure you pinch off the tiny buds on each set of leaves of it won’t grow full enough.

Lucky you! I can't grow coleus where I live. If it were me, I would divide where it makes sense and get them in pots immediately and be thrilled to bits you started new plants for free!

Great work Bernice, I'm just about to do the same to increase my plants. Everywhere there are roots you can cut and pot up when they grow a bit more or if you only want the one plant. Pot up as is, it will give it a good start with all those new roots............Enjoy...........

you can also plant in glass vases until the roots get large enough to plant

No strip the leaves off, because they will only rot anyway........

I am sure a few leaves would be fine although I never tried growing from just leaves, I think you need to cut a piece from the stem itself. But yes they do grow roots fast. I bought one for my garden and snapped a small branch off as I was planting it. I put it in water and within a few days I had roots. It's now planted in a small pot and I will give it to my daughter.

Hmmm update on my coleus. I planted two in pots on either side of my shed door. They were growing nicely when two weeks ago I saw our resident groundhog sitting in the pot. Now I see it has been eating them and they are nothing more than stubs now! I could cry. This year has been bad between the goundhog and rabbits, all my plants are chewed to the ground. I have hostas in the front of my house and out of the 6 one is eaten right to the ground and the others are halfway gone. Same in the back, as well as my black eyed susans and shasta daiseys. In the 30+ years I've lived here, I have never had this happen before. I just read somewhere else on Hometalk that baby powder or garlic powder deters them. I will give it a try on whats left and I just hope my hostas and daiseys come back next year. I have a long fence line that used to have a row of pine trees that we had taken out. One fell on the house so we decided to take them all out. Since then I have been trying to create a long cottage style garden by adding more perrenials each year. If these animals continue to eat everything I plant, I am not sure I will ever get the full garden I am planning. I love animals but this is crazy. They seem to like my garden better than anyone else's on the block.
