Sander vibration hurts my hands, how do I reduce the effect?

I am starting a major project involving a great deal of heavy sanding as phase one. I have to take frequent breaks to rest my hands as the vibration of the sander bothers me. It's a lovely new hand sander with all kinds of wonderful gadgets (I am so turning into a DIY geek) not an old clunker. Is there a type of glove or something like that which can help reduce the vibration? Thanks for your help, everyone.

what are you sanding that it takes so much time and effort? I hope you are not sanding a floor...this really requires a large sanding machine. You really dont want to take too much off of a wooden surface as this becomes dips and valleys. Are you using a palm sander or a belt sander? again, if you are getting into a LOT of sanding, please use the right tools to start with. A belt sander will do the job FAST, so make sure you have the right tool for the job.

Just be safe and take breaks when you need too. Permanent damage to your body is not worth it.
I use man size gloves that I shove quilt batting into. It does help.
Hi Cordillera. I'm Cindy. Franklinrawley gave you some good advice about using the right tool for the job you are starting. For a large surface, use a belt sander. Also use gloves to protect your hands. They will make a very big difference when sanding. I'm wishing you well. Best of luck to you.
I agree with using the right tool for the right job. Even so it's not always possible otherwise we would all be spending money on tools that we save on doing projects. You can get anti vibration gloves that would give some relief.
