Has anyone un-upholstered a couch to turn it more mission-style

    It depends on the wood that was used for the frame.

    The type wood used inside of furniture is usually the cheapest wood available, and a low quality at that. It is usually plywood, which isn’t a good look for furniture. You would be better off getting some pallets and build your own.

    Most wood under upholstry is just cheap pine that in no way resembles mission furniture. There are many knockoffs nowdays that are affordable.

    I grew up with Stickley mission couches... they have very wide wooden arms with unique joinery that looks like a little pyramid coming threw. And they have very deep leather cushions usually in dark reds or browns.
