Does Anyone Else Fight With Those Small Gardening Kneeling Pads?

When ever I garden on my knees, those small pads that you find in garden centers, simply do no do the trick. I decided to make something water and weather proof and much larger to suit my needs.

I had bought this runner for in front of my basement Alteration Shop door. However I found that it was not a good choice on my tile flooring. It was way too slippery on the tile.

I than put it in front of my machines. I do most of my sewing standing and have my machines placed on risers so they are the perfect height when standing. My back fairs a lot better than when I sat and sewed. Plus I stay much more limber since I am moving around a lot more.

This was not a good idea either since we often have small amounts of water that comes from the washer once in a while, which is a few feet from the machines. When water got under the mat it was like a waterslide!

I have nearly fallen more than once because water caused the runner to slip. I rolled it up to pitch out.

Than one day it dawned on me that it would make a perfect kneeling pad and it was big enough that I had a lot of room. I cut two of them.

When I do my weeding, I like to keep moving one ahead of me so I don't have to get up and move it to a new spot. Since I have two, I keep rotating one to the next spot and than move the one I was using to the next subsequent spot.

I can now do a lot of hand weeding without having to get up and move the pads. These are super and light weight and perfect to kneel on.

If I have a very small area to clean, I use both of these mats at once and they are super soft.

I am going to watch the yard sales and thrift stores for a yoga mat which will be even better in the garden.

They are easy to roll up and stash on the tractor till I need them again.

I can't remember what I paid for the runner so I am guessing around $10.

Suggested materials:
  • Soft rubber like mat runner.   (Harbor Freight)
  • Cut the runner with utility scissors   (Had these)

Very creative. This what I need. Wood work out great when I go up on my roof to paint my prefab metal chimney and fireplace smokestack.
