Grass in the southern states is different than most of the rest of the country due to the intense heat and humidity. We have Bermuda grass which goes dormant in the winter (looks like it is dead). We fertilize with a high nitrogen content fertilizer and mow the grass a little higher to help retain moisture when we water. I suggest you talk to someone in a garden center to advise you what fertilizer you need, spread it and then water it in. Then mow one notch higher than you normally do.
Agn, I'd pretend to be happy i don't have to mow. I'm an expert on it: it starts with a tall glass of sweet iced tea and anything to read. Spray paint it green. Put up a sign like they do in cornfields around here, labeling each six feet or so a different hybrid seed. Just don't use a real company's name or they'll send you a nasty cease and desist letter, which you could turn into a paper airplane. Sorry, you're fighting nature and God and it's rare to best that twosome.

How much are you watering?
It may go dormant when stressed by heat. If you water to much it can turn yellow
Don't waste your water dye it. There are many environmentally friendly dyes. A lot of people are doing this so save water and money.
