What kind of paint can I use to paint our wood stove!

We have a black mantel on an old stone fireplace. The stove is jet black. We've gone lighter with the walls and furniture so I'm trying to lighten that area too. The paint would need to withstand high heat.

Do you have a stove set into a fireplace? You do not paint such a stove, you apply a finish to it each season.

  • You need "appliance paint" formulated specifically for stoves, bbq grills, etc. Any paint store or hardware or home improvement center will carry. Same rules apply, wash, prime, then paint.

If budget allows, you can take to a auto body shop or restoration shop and have done for you, but it will be expensive.

check with your local wood stove seller. They sell polish for the stove but I don't know about paint sorry I hope this helps.

You have asked what you think is a straight forward question. However, Emily's answer makes it obvious that there is more than one possibility. It really would have been helpful for you to provide a photo. I really think you need to talk to a professional fireplace/wood stove store. Take a picture with you of your heating setup as well its brand name, so you will get exact advice.

If you can paint you do not have to buy from the store, though for me the purchase is more secure. Check out prices first, but remember to add in the cost of shipping if you decide to order online. Stove Bright has the widest range of high-temp colors.
