Cleaning ceder wood

Chelsea @ Making ManzanitaGrandmasHouseDIY

I have a 90 year old cedar chest that has become very dark on the out side I have striped it already but the out side wood is very dark. I would like to lighten it up. Any ideas on how to do that.

thanks donna

Hi Donna after stripping I would think you could sand it back to it original wood color which should be pretty light. If that's not the case you could consider a light stain or white washing.

I agree that sanding should lighten it up and then you can restain, clear coat or paint it.
