Is using Behr Deck Over easy to do?

Hi,

I bought some Behr Deck Over for my patio. I am a 61 year old woman who has never attempted anything like this. I am afraid to get started with it. Is this a fairly easy job I can complete on my own? The person that was supposed to do it did not come.

Thanks

Sandy

You can do it yourself with a brush, a roller and a paint pan but you do need to prepare your deck ahead of time before you begin painting. There are instructions on the can as to what you need to do to prepare your deck before you paint and I would do what Behr suggests for it to be a more successful application. However, be aware that Deck Over will eventually bubble, peel, and look nasty with extreme weather changes--cold winters, hot summers, wet rainy springs and falls. It will look nice at first but as a paint product that just sits on top of the wood it will eventually deteriorate.

Don’t do it. My daughters deck started peeling after a few months They peeled, scraped and sanded for months to remove it all.

Hi! I'm sorry, but, people I know who have used it, didn't like it either. If you have started yet, and it's still sealed, I would return it. Deck stain or paint that absorbs into the wood will hold up better.

DEFINITELY DON'T DO IT!!!! Return it and get a good UV rated deck stain.

There is a problem with the deckover products. They are known to crack and peel within two years. Hard to remove. Many Hometalkers have used them and regret it and have mention their misfortunes in discussions. Many people had o replace deck boards and even complete decks. There are class action lawsuits against the manufacturers. Also notice they are not advertised anymore. You can do some online research and find more cons than pros. I have been advising Hometalkers not to use the products and to spread the word. Some have tried scraping and sanding with fair results.

Yes. It will peel up and blister on cement--especially if you live in a cold climate that has tough winters. I am not very happy with that product as you can tell because it has caused me more work than it did to fix my problems.
