How would I keep a crushed rock path clean?

How would grass get in there? What type of mower do you have? My gardener blows them off once a week, but I have been know to vacuum them up with my shop vac. They sell lightweight blowers that would work well.

Hello Peggy removing leaves and grass clippings would be less of a maintenance problem —easily treated with a leaf blower.

Please consider —if weeds will invade your gravel or stone. We had a 200 foot pea gravel driveway and it was a nightmare to maintain it to be weed free. While the pea gravel looked great and add a country charm we couldn’t wait to get rid of it. It needed to be treated with round up or flame weeded on a very routine basis. Is this something that could cause you extra aggravation or unwanted chore? Just something to think about.

You can use a leaf blower to remove debris when required

Oh Peggy, I love crushed rock paths, but they are impossible to keep clean and when you try to blow the trash away, you blow rocks everywhere!

If you are making a path, I would first delineate the area with landscape timbers; then put down concrete squares, using the larger ones; and finish it off with Zoysia Emerald Sod because it requires little if any mowing.

I forgot to mention also sometimes gravel get stuck in your shoes and it travels into your house if you have hardfloors -that’s also a threat. You’ll find crush stone and pea gravel hitching a ride in shoes -inside your car mats and house quite easily —another factor one might not consider.

Additionally— to extend our concrete driveway and concrete walkway to our rear decking we did put in some bluestone for a pathway extension -they seem like an attractive and substantial option that you might want to consider.

That's beautiful, and the perfect solution. Any advice on getting the blocks level and low enough the mower can go over them?

When we get storms with high winds, every kind of weed seed blows into our yard. It is a constant battle to fight weeds.

Another thing to be considered is how wooded is the area where you live. We have 70' trees everywhere! Here in Atlanta, we love our trees, but we also have tons of leaves to deal with, which brings tons of problems! There have been times when the interstate is almost closed down in heavy rains because the drains get clogged with leaves! That kind of leaf abundance is not blown away with a "soft blower!"

It is terrifying to see highway workers out in storm with pressure hoses trying to open up drains on the interstate!
