I have a lot of pre-decorated candles and want to melt them down to make other candles. I am concerned about the colors. Will they be muddy colored or can that be corrected with candle dye?

Also, I am concerned about wicks. I am having trouble finding a wick that everyone likes.

Help!!!

Can you explain what the decorations are made of? And what color are the candles? Depending on the colors, yes, they will look muddy if too many colors are involved.

I made candles years ago, but I used candle molds and paraffin. There are techniques to it to make them look new. YouTube has a number of DIY videos that would be easier to watch than typing out lengthy instructions.

I suggest you get a color wheel to determine what the colors will look like after they are melted together. You could also melt like colors together and make the different colors into one candle by layering. To get a transition, pour the next color slowly in before the first color is completely set. Another option would be to melt everything together and add glitter, or tiny pebbles to make the resulting color more interesting.

Thanks so much! Do you have any suggestions about wicks? I have differing opinions and it's driving me crazy!

      Thanks again!

I am not picky about wicks and just purchase the common ones from Wal-Mart. If you get deeply into this hobby you will probably get more knowledge and suggestions from other people with this same hobby. I just do it to use up candle ends.
