Shrubs dying- Any ideas why this is suddenly happening?

Ask the lawn service people what kind of weed killer they have used in your yard.

Call back the Lawn Service and ask them to give you another call, and ask them if they have the answer. What were they using on the grass and ask them to put things right!

PS: The Forsythia bush would have lost its flowers by now, but if the foliage has died and 2 roses have lost their foliage and flowers. There is a possibility if it has been unseasonably Hot, they may have only shed their leaves because of the lack of water in the soil. If when you cut into the bushes you see any green inside the stems, they are still alive! (I have lost 2 roses this year myself for this reason) Wishing you luck........

What qualifies them as "professional?" In the landscape business anyone can hang out a shingle with literally no qualifications other than a truck, lawnmower, hedge trimmer and a few tools. Not a heavily "regulated" industry. Depending on the state, professionals are licensed. Mow and blow services are not.

Not to downplay all the independent contractors out there, as many are excellent services without a formal education as these skills are handed down through generations. But there are many, many fly by night "mow and blow" type services that are good for just that, a truly basic service, with little knowledge or qualification and no interest to better themselves, they just want a quick sloppy buck. You just need to sift through to find the right match for your needs and pocketbook. Do you want a service that handles everything and you just write a check once a month, or do you want to be hands on with a service to do maintenance and you do the fun stuff?

If your service is indeed professional (and licensed), with trained personnel, this should not be happening. Have you called to inquire what products they are using? Are they pruning or deadheading improperly? Are they treating your lawn with chemicals? Wrong fertilizer for plants?

First step, give them a call and see what they have to say. I would also verify their qualifications.

Second call would be to your local Ag Extension and see, if, by chance, this could be weather or pest related and no fault of your service. Although a "cut above" service should be checking and informing you of any changes or problems in your yard and offer suggestions to remedy.

Treated with what? for what? I would sure call them back to reverse whatever they did if possible.
