I need a SUPER durable clear coat for these chairs.

They will be used in my elementary classroom extensively. Since I used craft paint, I am afraid they might smear if I use a paint-on coat so I am looking into a spray. I think Krylon or Rustoleum may not be the way to go on these. They may require many coats to provide a thick protection. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi! Your chairs are so colorful and beautiful! To insure the paint doesn't smear a good clear sealant can be purchased at any home improvement store. You can select either matte or glossy. I'd suggest at least two coats of it to insure it is well covered as it's difficult to see where you've applied it.

Hi! If the craft paint is well dried, and you are careful applying it, try it on one area. I have used brush on sealer over craft paint without a problem, but, your designs are more colorful and detailed than anything I've tried, so try it on an area that's less visible.

I spray my outdoor ceramics with a clear acrylic sealer called Mod Podge available at Walmart in the craft department. It keeps the paint from peeling or fading so it will probably work well on your chairs.

Polycrylic. Not the same as polyurethane which may discolor as it ages.

Minwax makes a spray polycrylic. Runs about $10 on Amazon today.
