That worn look on hardwood floors is actually a trendy look these days. :D

They are both a lot of work. The cost of laminate may be close to cost to hire someone to sand it. What look do you prefer? I have both in my home. I did a quick sand on the wood floor and stained it a darker color. It looks great. I didnt protect it and the dogs have worn spots on this floor. We will redo it as I think it still looks better than click laminate.

YouTube has any number of videos. Perhaps you'll find something that'll work for you there. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+refinish+wood+floors

Save the floors!! Sand and Re-stain! A darker stain would hide most of the damage

Refinishing hardwood flooring is definitely not a DIY job. If you rent a floor sander, you have to use it right. If you don’t you will make a bigger problem for yourself. Hire a professional to do the sanding, then stain and seal it yourself. Even this part I would leave to the professionals. If this part is not done correctly it will look terrible, ruining what you pay for the sanding.
