Hi Lyn, I bought some metal shelving and plastic boxes for my garage, I also use an old bookcase and old bedroom units for storage - I am a hoarder! I also bought various types of large hooks that I screwed to the walls to store garden implements and brushes etc..Good luck
Purge first, get rid of everything you don't want, by giving it away or selling. Then take an inventory of what you have left and decide if it would be best organized on shelves or containers.

I built a holder for my scrap wood. It's on the wall. Leaves my floors empty and is easier to see what I have.
