Not many, Pam, but your best bets are vines which start nearby and extend to under the pine trees as times passes. Once the vines take hold, they will keep sending runners, and you will have green ground cover all year long. Best wishes ☺️

Pines are very acidic, and most have shallow roots that will compete with other plants and grasses for water, food, space. Planting outside the "dripline" is recommended, for this reason, but you may have luck with ground creeping variety of euonymous, vinca, ground sedums, lily of the valley, depending on your climate. Lily of the valley can spread far beyond where it's initially planted, so best to contain it. It does prefer shade and will grow around some pines. Other options are Lenten Rose, which blooms mid to late winter in this zone (6), and Lamium (dead nettles)..

Another solution is to place containers of shade-loving plants under the tree and keep them free of any falling pine needles. Another idea, if you have low enough limbs on your tree is hanging containers.

Get rid of the pine trees, they are nothing but big weeds that use lots of water. I am working on finding someone to harvest mine. I pull any little ones I find.
