Is there a vinegar & detergent mixtiure to clean varnished woodgrain?

Is there a vinegar and detergent mixture to clean varnished woodgrain cupboards before you paint?

    instead of using vinegar, use TSP. It is more effective and does a great job.

    I used Krudkutter on mine and it was the most effective. I have read about using using vinegar, water, and liquid detergent. It was a cup of vinegar, gallon water, and a dash of liquid detergent.

    You can also use Murphy's Oil Soap to clean the cabinets.

    dirtex, tsp, krudkutter. ammonia would be better than vinegar. ammonia cuts waxes and fats, vinegar is a mild acid. also if your cabinets are shellac finished most cleaners will remove shellac.
