Want a new look to my kitchen and dining room floor but don’t have the money to replace. Help! Painting walls and cabinets in next 2 weeks. Hoping to cover countertops soon. The floors need something but don’t have much money to spend.

How about painting it. What other Hometalkers did.

  • There are some specialized paints out there you could look into and I would look on Pinterest as well

Hey, Joy! Go ahead and paint the kitchen floor. It’s fashionable and can be fun. Use a stripper/cleaner on the floor. If you can remove the baseboards and quarterround before painting, the job will look better. Paint a coat of primer to keep the linoleum color from showing through. Then paint in stripes, boxes or another design in whatever will go with your new cabinets, countertops, walls, appliances, and other accessories. Then replace the flooring when you can. Clean and paint the baseboards and quarter round and nail it back into place. Best wishes, Joy. ☺️

I'm voting for painting it as well. I bought a real fixer-upper, and had laundry lists of "wants" and "needs". Obviously, the needs came first.

My bathroom floor was textured vinyl on a roll, and the previous owner just poured mop & glow right over the dirt. I got a good recommendation for a water-based primer, and then just painted it a lovely "verdigris" color. It lasted for 4 years with only a minor touch up at the spot in front of the toilet, which you could say was a high-traffic area. I was then able to start on my "want" list (had to repipe the house first), and got to redo the bathroom. (Sears Porch and Floor for the paint).

Many years ago, my mom painted our kitchen floor with white or off white paint. Let it dry, then got pint cans of all different colors of paint and splattered drops all over and let then dry. Then got a sealer to cover the floor. After that the floor lasted for several years.
