Gnat, or fruit fly, eggs come into your home on fruit, of course, but also other fresh products, such as onions. I try to run all of these products under a running faucet when I bring them in from the grocery store to wash the eggs away. I never did the onions, but found out that they, too, are a source. Once, I had an awful problem, but managed to eliminate a good deal of them with the following: insert a clear plastic bag in a small coffee can (or something similar), put some type of fruit in the bag in the bottom of the can (I used a banana peel), tuck some of the bag opening under the can on the outside forming a "hood" where the gnats can enter but have a hard time finding their way back out. Leave it somewhere in your kitchen where there is less activity and check on it after an hour or two. When you see the flies inside crawling on the bag, carefully close the opening and crush each fly with your fingers. You will probably have to use fresh peeling daily. It took me about 3 days to rid my kitchen of them. These directions are strictly trial and error. You may find another solution while trying this one. Good Luck!

A quick summary of getting rid of gnats and fruit flies.

    1. Create a trap by mixing apple cider vinegar with a few drops of dish soap.
    2. Another home-made trap is to pour leftover red wine into a jar.
    3. Mash up banana slices in a jar and cover the top with a plastic wrap.
    4. Pour bleach solution into the bathroom sink. Warning: do not mix bleach with ammonia.
    5. Use an insect fogging product if you are dealing with a large-scale infestation.
    6. Place rotten fruits into a jar to attract the gnats and fruit flies.

Hello Cristina, Try hanging fly paper that comes in a little cylinder, and it expands. Put it where no one will see it. You can buy it in a hardware store
