Will contact glue be enough to hold a wooden counter top on?

I want to place a piece or cedar on top of my laminate counter tops. Was wondering if contact glue or some type of glue hold the counter top on securely. Do I need to screw it on.

I would use contact cement. It's really strong. Brush the cement onto the existing counter top and to the back of the wooden counter top and let it dry a bit, until it's tacky and then stick it down. Place some weighs on top to help it bond.

Is there a certain brand of contact cement that is better.

Marlene, I totally agree with Michelle from A Crafty Mix. Are to trying to make a “living” countertop with rough edges? Whatever you do, be sure to sand the cedar top, clean it, then coat a few times with foodsafe polyurethane. Most of it is for all surfaces. Be sure to finish the edges with poly, too, so it is less likely to chip off, but some chipping is normal if it has a bark edge. I would love to see this on Hometalk. ☺️

When I get this completed, I will post it. I understand about sealing it. Thank you for your input.

I agree with contact cement, but construction adhesive will also work. There is no food safe polyurethane. Once it is cured it is somewhat food safe. Cedar is a high resinous wood and polyurethane may just flake off. Best to treat it with tung oil or mineral oil. Both are food safe.
