Old kitchen and shower overhaul- Any ideas?
I purchased an older home and have been making updates throughout as I can afford them. My kitchen and bathrooms are very dated. I’d really like to get granite look countertops but can’t afford them. Plus, my shower tile is hideous! I was thinking about an upgrade using tile instead. I’m pretty handy but a little Leary of doing a shower overhaul because of the shower pan, etc. Any ideas? Thank you! God Bless, Kasie

Many places selling granite these days are selling thinner slabs than was the case 10+ years ago, making them more affordable, but you could mimic the look with a good laminate and very detailed installation. Buy yourself a new sink, if needed, with a high kitchen faucet with single handle or one touch operation and built in sprayer. Bathrooms can have simple improvements with a simply designed (think Shaker) vanity, new faucets, LED lighting on dimmers and a good exhaust fan. Build up the vanity height to what works for you. Tile choices are everywhere, but avoid ones with deep grooves, which extend the maintenance time to dry them. Larger tiles work well in small baths as well as reduce grout lines. "Schlutter"makes items for shower areas to facilitate installation.
Get a good quality grout for your walls and floors, avoiding bright white grout, which looks dirty, quickly. Good luck!
Hi there, I have a worktop that is granite look - you have to feel it (not cold) to be able to tell. It's just a Lamenated worktop!
