Roses in front of or under trees-a good idea?

I'm getting ready to rearrange my front yard. I have 3 young trees, an elm between 2 maples. They are within 10 feet of each other and I know I have to pare it down to probably 1. I have many maples so i think I'd like to keep the elm. They are on the north side of the yard and back up to the driveway. I also have several rose bushes i would like to move there, too. They are very good about creeping toward the sunlight, which I love. I'd take a whole front yard of roses, unless you can tell me a good reason to cut them away from the tree/s. They would start out to the south of the tree/s and where they grow after that is fine with me. They were here when I bought the place in 1985, so they have a nice story to go with the property. They bloom in June, a soft pink with yellow stamens in the center. I'm not really a rose expert at all, so everything you share with me will help. Thanks!

We have quite a few roses growing really well under the trees. You might want to prune out the lower branches to allow more sunlight in and it's probably better to plant your roses away from the trunk and closer to the edge of the canopy, where they can get more sunlight

Thanks, Michelle, the trees are rather fighting each other for sunlight so they are growing tall and thin. I don't want to disturb the trees' roots so I'm planning to start out past the trees' dripline.

I was also noticing that nothing grows under the red maple in another part of the yard, andI was wondering if certain trees put a chemical in the ground to keep invaders out? The two here are silver maples and don't seem to act like the red maple, but I'm not sure about the elm.
