My son gave me a wine crate he picked up at his Condo dump (people set things they are giving away over to the side for others to use)! I LOVE IT! He knows I love wine things so he helped me prepare it for my kitchen.
He first used the sealer for butcher block to seal it, glued some balsam wood strips vertically on the back to make sure it would stay together and not fall apart since these are not put together to last. Then he put a strip across the top and attached small saw-tooth hanger used on picture frames.
The box is used on my Island to hold items convenient for a family member with memory problems who needs a place to keep his favorite things such as his honey, popcorn salt, etc.
This box would also be a great used as a bread/snack box...after all, we have to live in our houses while we make it a home to meet the needs as circumstances dictate.
Another great use would be to set it on a small table over to the side of the den and put rolled up throws, extra pillows in it.
